REQUIREMENTS

  • The project’s aim is to present a unique set of design challenges to the architects with:

  • An freeform surface which can be produced only an advanced production and design systems which uses computer aided design and manufacturing process with robot machine molding  

  • The intended design -form have to be built with two different face to face panels which had to be produced in precise production.

  • The integrated curved neon led light also forces the tolerances of the joint between two different surfaces 

  • To show the benefits of using GRP with; very precise tolerances , unlimited form capability, light weight and adequate mechanical strength enable to be used for architectural demands 

SOLUTIONS

  • Unique double-curved freeform surfaces designed in GRASSHOPPER  software

  • The prototypes are built in ULTIMAKER 3d printer 

  • The molds are made with FANUC robotics machine with 6 axis with extra 2 axes positioner.

  • The production is made by spray-up   process with GRACO FRP machines using polyester resin and fiber glasses.

RESULTS

Using the GRP panel systems for both facade cladding and decorative architectural elements has ensured a consistently high quality of free-form results which can be easily integrated artificial lighting 

The flexibility of the product’s fast-install, modular construction has been demonstrated to its fullest extent in its application to the double curved façade 

With its unique and stunning aesthetic appearance, the NOD STAND has won a design award.
